Frederic Leighton Oil Paintings
Frederic Leighton was born on 3 December 1830, death on 25 January 1896, was an English painter and sculptor. His works depicted historical, biblical, and classical subject matter. Leighton’s painting Cimabue’s Madonna, shown at the Royal Academy’s exhibition in 1855, was bought by Queen Victoria. In 1869 he was made a member of the Royal Academy and in 1878 its president. Leighton was bearer of the shortest-lived peerage in history; after only one day his hereditary peerage became extinct upon his death.
